ABOUT US

Who we are

OptimCut is one of the first Romanian programs for optimizing chipboard (PAL) panel cutting. In 2026 we rebuilt it from the ground up, for the browser.

We are the team behind OptimCut, a Romanian company founded in 2026 with a single goal: to give furniture workshops panel cutting software that saves material, is quick to learn and works anywhere. We didn't start from scratch. We started from a program that Romanian workshops had used for years.

The OptimCut story

  1. The 2000s

A Romanian program for furniture workshops

OptimCut was born in the early 2000s at Softrust Computers in Bucharest. It was a Windows program, from 95 to XP, installed from a CD, and it solved an everyday workshop problem: how to lay out parts on chipboard (PAL) boards so that as little as possible goes to waste.

Behind it was an engine based on genetic algorithms, which tried thousands of layouts and kept the best ones. On a computer of that era, a 500 MHz Pentium II, it placed 300 parts on 11 boards with 96% coverage in about three minutes.

  2. 2003 – 2012

Versions 1 and 2: from workshop to workshop

The 2003 manual for version 1.6 already described what a workshop still needs today: raw boards and ordered parts, grain along the length, parts that can or cannot be rotated, saw kerf, edge banding on every part, reusable offcuts and Excel import.

Versions 2.x and OptimCut PRO 2.2 followed, with two types of edge banding, self-adhesive labels for parts and offcuts, and edge banding and cutting reports. Dozens of furniture factories, mostly in Bucharest, as well as marble and granite companies, cut with it for years.

  3. 2026

    Starting over

The programs of that time required a specific computer, a CD in the drive and a single-seat license. Today's workshops work from laptops, tablets and phones, right next to the saw.

So in 2026 we went back to the original optimization engine: we studied it, decoded the coefficients it uses to pick the best layout, and moved it from Windows to our servers. Around it we built everything from scratch: a web app with accounts, stock, furniture recipes and workshop documents.

  4. October 2026

    OptimCut 3.0.0

Version 3.0.0 brings the engine workshops know into a modern app: furniture recipes by category, stock with offcuts, a step-by-step cut sheet, labels, PDF and CSV, quick optimization for quotes, and five languages. All the new features are on the News page.

From CD to browser

The same idea, straight cuts across a board, redrawn for each era.

What we built in 2026

In short, what OptimCut gained with its move to the browser.

What guides us

Every board counts

One chipboard panel saved on every order means money kept in the workshop. The engine always looks for the layout with the least waste.

Made for the person at the saw

The cut sheet clearly says which piece to pick up, what measurement to set on the fence and what gets cut off. No training courses, no jargon.

Easy to get started

Create a free account and have your first cutting plan in minutes. No CD, no installation, no license tied to a single computer.

Built in Romania

We work out of Ilfov, we speak the language of the workshop and we personally answer every message.
